Oxford, Mississippi – Jake Jacoby Announced as New Head Coach of Ole Miss Men’s Tennis Program

Jake Jacoby has been appointed as the eighth head coach of the Ole Miss men’s tennis program, with the transition officially starting on May 12, 2025. The announcement was made by Keith Carter, the Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics, signaling a new chapter for the team following a significant coaching change.

The hiring comes after Ole Miss parted ways with long-time head coach Toby Hansson, who led the program for 11 seasons before leaving in April 2025. Carter highlights Jacoby’s reputation as a relentless leader and an elite recruiter in collegiate tennis, which aligns with the athletic department’s goals of enhancing the team’s competitive edge.

Jacoby’s Background and Achievements

Before joining Ole Miss, Jacoby served as the associate head coach at Mississippi State University from June 2019. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in the team reaching the NCAA Championships every year, including a run to the Elite Eight in 2025. Under his guidance, the Bulldogs not only achieved remarkable results but also made four NCAA Round of 16 appearances over five seasons. In the recently concluded 2024-25 season, Mississippi State finished with an impressive record of 25-5 and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time since 2018.

Jacoby’s coaching prowess is evidenced by his contribution to the development of players, with 12 earning All-SEC selections and eight qualifying for the NCAA individual tournament. Moreover, he has been recognized nationally as one of the best recruiters, securing two of the ITA’s top eight incoming freshmen for 2020 and 2024, which has notably enhanced the team’s roster.

Prior Engagements and Early Life

Earlier in his coaching career, Jacoby served as an assistant coach at the University of Charlotte. There, he helped three players achieve first-team All-Conference USA honors and academic distinctions. His extensive experience in collegiate athletics is complemented by his personal background as a standout player; he played college tennis at the University of Iowa from 2014 to 2018, finishing with 128 combined singles and doubles wins. This achievement ranks him fifth in Iowa’s all-time history.

In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Jacoby excelled academically, being recognized three times as an Academic All-Big Ten selection and graduating with a degree in finance in 2018. Hailing from Little Rock, Arkansas, he was a five-star junior recruit and a four-time Arkansas state champion, also competing in prestigious tournaments like the USTA National Clay Courts Championship.

Looking Forward

Upon his hiring, Jacoby expressed his gratitude to the Ole Miss search committee while sharing his enthusiasm for the program’s rich tradition and promising potential. His appointment marks a strategic move for Ole Miss, aiming to elevate the competitiveness of the men’s tennis program and harness the skills of incoming recruits under his leadership.

As Jacoby prepares to step into his new role, both the university and its supporters are hopeful for a fruitful season ahead as he seeks to build on the legacy of the Ole Miss men’s tennis program.
