Oxford, Mississippi – The Ole Miss Rebels baseball team concluded their midweek schedule with an impressive 11-5 victory over UT Martin on May 13, 2025, at Swayze Field. The win marks the Rebels’ tenth victory in midweek games this season, setting the stage for their upcoming series against Auburn.

The Rebels showcased a powerful offensive performance, scoring seven runs within the initial three innings of the game. This strong start highlighted their dominance early on, as they recorded a total of 12 hits, which included four home runs, contributing to their commanding scoreline.

Leading the charge for Ole Miss was left fielder Mitchell Sanford, who excelled with two home runs and three runs batted in (RBI), marking his third multi-homer game of the season. Additionally, Campbell Smithwick stood out with an impressive 4-for-4 performance, including a double and a walk, reinforcing the Rebels’ offensive output.

A standout moment came from freshman Ethan Surowiec, who hit a three-run home run during his first career start, bringing his season total to two home runs. Sanford ignited the scoring in the first inning with a leadoff solo home run, putting Ole Miss up 1-0.

In the second inning, the Rebels continued to expand their lead. After Ryan Moerman was hit by a pitch, he stole second and advanced to third on an Isaac Humphrey single. Surowiec capitalized on the momentum, launching a home run to score both runners. Shortly after, Sanford delivered another two-run homer, scoring Smithwick and extending their lead to 6-0. The third inning saw first baseman Will Furniss add to the scoreboard with a 420-foot solo home run, making it 7-0.

Despite the Rebels’ commanding lead, UT Martin mounted a response. The Skyhawks scored two runs in the fourth inning and another two in the sixth, narrowing the deficit. However, Ole Miss responded in the bottom of the sixth when Judd Utermark scored on a ground ball that drove in Smithwick.

Ole Miss added to their lead in the eighth inning with Utermark scoring on a double from Humphrey, who later capped off the inning with an RBI single that brought Utermark home again.

As the game neared its close, UT Martin managed to score one run in the ninth on a bases-loaded walk. Nonetheless, Ole Miss pitcher Alex Canney struck out the final batter, ensuring their 11-5 victory.

On the mound, starting pitcher Cade Townsend earned the win after pitching four innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits. Gunnar Dennis provided solid relief, throwing one inning without allowing any baserunners and recording two strikeouts.

This midweek victory positions the Rebels positively as they prepare for their final regular season series against Auburn starting Thursday night. With a stellar display of pitching and hitting against UT Martin, Ole Miss remains hopeful for continued success in their upcoming contests.
