Students engaging in entrepreneurial activities at the University of Mississippi

News Summary

The University of Mississippi is fostering a vibrant entrepreneurial culture as students like Kristian Bell, Addie Salter, and Lauren Hill launch their businesses. From painted art and fashion boutiques to a health-focused food truck, these young entrepreneurs showcase creativity and resilience. While each journey is unique, they all contribute to the dynamic environment at Ole Miss, proving that passion can turn dreams into reality.

Entrepreneurship Flourishes Among Ole Miss Students

Oxford, Mississippi, is buzzing with a new wave of entrepreneurial spirit, thanks to the innovative students at the University of Mississippi. With a history of producing influential business leaders, Ole Miss is now witnessing a fresh generation of student entrepreneurs who are seizing the moment and making their dreams a reality.

Creativity Meets Compassion with PaintedByKbell

First on our list is Kristian Bell, a senior psychology major hailing from Grenada, Mississippi. Kristian’s journey as an entrepreneur began during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. As she navigated her grandfather’s battle with esophageal cancer, she found solace in painting. Initially, she created colorful artworks to brighten her dorm room in Martin Hall, which soon caught the attention of her fellow students.

To showcase her talent, Kristian started an Instagram account, @PaintedByKbell. Her art features a unique abstract style filled with vibrant pastel colors that has charmed many. By summer 2021, she was receiving numerous orders, earning around $1,500. This financial success gave her a significant boost in confidence, reassuring her of her artistic abilities.

Tragically, she had to pause her business after her grandfather passed away, needing time to focus on grief and her academic studies. However, painting remained a healing outlet for her. Now, as graduation approaches, Kristian plans to take a brief hiatus but looks forward to resuming her business shortly!

Addie Belle Boutique: A Fashion Forward Venture

Next up is Addie Salter, a spirited sophomore who is making waves with her online store, Addie Belle Boutique. At just 16 years old, Addie was inspired to create her boutique after discovering the entrepreneurial journey of a young woman on TikTok during quarantine. Today, her boutique offers a delightful array of women’s clothing, including dresses, tops, shoes, and accessories.

What began as a small venture quickly blossomed into a legitimate business, with orders rolling in from all corners of the country—far beyond her original expectation of local support. With the help of her mother, Addie transformed her passion into a job that she genuinely loves. As she continues her studies in integrated marketing communications, she appreciates the real-world experience she’s gaining, which perfectly complements her academic pursuits.

The Lemon House: A Refreshing New Business

Last but certainly not least is Lauren Hill, a senior in allied health studies from Fayetteville, Arkansas. In October 2024, she took a leap of faith and launched The Lemon House, a food truck dedicated to selling fresh juices and snacks. Lauren’s passion for nutrition inspired her to switch her career path from dental school to a focus on health studies, leading her to create a business that aligns with her interests.

As a busy student balancing her coursework and business, Lauren finds managing The Lemon House both challenging and rewarding. She invites everyone to follow along on Instagram at @TheLemonHouse.juice and visit her food truck located at 2885 South Lamar Blvd. Her journey stands as a testament to the thriving entrepreneurial spirit among Ole Miss students.

A Supportive Community

These three inspiring entrepreneurs highlight the vibrant, supportive community of student business owners at Ole Miss. Kristian, Addie, and Lauren all share a common appreciation for the encouragement they receive from one another and other peers pursuing their own entrepreneurial journeys.

As the trend of innovation continues to grow at the University of Mississippi, it’s clear that these young business leaders are paving the way for the future, proving that with passion and dedication, anyone can thrive as an entrepreneur.
