Commerce City, Colorado – David Draughon, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 73 while napping in his favorite chair at his daughter’s home. He was surrounded by family, having spent the final days of his life visiting with his wife of 55 years, Christy, and their children and grandchildren.

While David had plans to finalize healthcare and life arrangements before relocating to their new home in Oxford, Mississippi, he found solace in being with family in Colorado at the time of his passing. His final moments were marked by tranquility, a reflection of the loving support from his close relatives.

Early Life and Move to Colorado

David Draughon was born on September 16, 1950, in Meridian, Mississippi, to parents Thomas and Minnie Mae Draughon. He grew up with five brothers, Thomas, Richard, Jackie, and Johnny, all of whom preceded him in death, leaving him with his youngest brother, Donald. David’s childhood was filled with playing sports and forming lasting friendships that would follow him into adulthood.

In 1986, David moved to Thornton, Colorado, with his wife Christy and their three children: Greg, Shelley, and Ben. The family settled into a new life in Colorado, and David dedicated the rest of his years to work and family.

Career and Passion for Family

David retired from a career in novelty sales and later worked at Solar Vision Inc. alongside family members. In 2017, he suffered a significant stroke, which marked a turning point in his life. After a period of recovery, he and Christy embraced a fulfilling chapter of travel across the United States, often revisiting their roots in Mississippi. Among his many adventures, David fulfilled a long-held dream by attending a full football season in Oxford, Mississippi, where he participated in the vibrant Ole Miss tailgating community.

A devoted family man, David took immense pride in his role as a grandfather. He was affectionately known as “Paw Paw” and was blessed with seven grandchildren. His eldest grandchild, Addie, 19, is a student at the University of Mississippi, while his younger grandchildren range in age from 3 to 12. In the days leading up to his passing, David enjoyed quality time with these grandchildren, attending important events such as a track meet for his grandson, David, and celebrating birthdays. His devotion to his family was evident in every aspect of his life.

A Lifelong Christian and Memorial Services

A devoted Christian, David often led prayers and blessings, emphasizing positivity in his faith. His warmth and generosity left a lasting impact on those around him.
