Holly Springs, MS – The community of Holly Springs is mourning the loss of Nancy Jane Coffler, a beloved counselor and friend who passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, at the age of 76. Her demise has left a significant void in the hearts of those she touched throughout her life, particularly in her role as an advocate and support system for at-risk youth.

Nancy Jane Coffler, born Nancy Jane Thomas on August 5, 1948, in Oxford, Mississippi, spent her early years establishing deep-rooted connections within Holly Springs, where she graduated from Holly High School. She dedicated herself to education and mental health, earning a Bachelor of Science in Special Education and a Master of Science in Counseling while simultaneously raising a family and working various jobs.

Throughout her lifetime, Nancy provided unwavering guidance and support to countless individuals. Renowned for her infectious positivity and generous spirit, she was not only a mentor but also a friend to many. Her thoughtful nature extended to her culinary skills, as she frequently prepared delicious meals and baked goods, embodying the true essence of southern hospitality.

A neighborhood staple, she was affectionately referred to as “the granny in the hood” by local youth, including young girls named Grace and Faith, who fondly remembered her for her warmth and wisdom. Nancy’s passion for helping others peaked during her tenure as a high school counselor, where she dedicated herself to supporting at-risk youth and becoming an advocate for their well-being.

Nancy was also known for her unapologetic love for football, often cheering on her favorite teams and sharing these moments with her family. However, the greatest joy in her life came from her cherished grandchildren: Samantha and Jocelyn Coffler, Elaina and Emma Jane Fernando. They were an integral part of her life, giving her a sense of pride and happiness.

In addition to her grandchildren, Nancy is survived by several family members, including her siblings Douglas H. Coffler (Kara), Joanna B. Coffler, and Holly M. Fernando (Shaminda). Her passing is also mourned by her surviving sister Patricia (nee Thomas) Arnett, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, KB and Ezsma (nee Pipkin) Thomas, her sister Sheila (nee Thomas) Burnett, and her husband Ronald S. Coffler. Her contributions to the community and the lives she inspired will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

In an effort to honor her memory, an informal gathering for family and friends is scheduled for July 19, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Holly Springs, MS. Routsong Funeral Home in Dayton, Ohio, is facilitating arrangements and providing opportunities for friends and family to share their memories and expressions of support during this difficult time.

For those wishing to commemorate Nancy’s life through charitable actions, donations can be made in lieu of flowers to organizations such as Special Olympics Illinois, Milestone Inc., or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Nancy Jane Coffler’s legacy will be defined by her kindness, infectious laughter, and warm spirit, qualities that will continue to resonate within the Holly Springs community for years to come.
