Young quarterback in football gear practicing with teammates

News Summary

Knox Kiffin, son of Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, is transferring to Oxford High School football from California’s Palos Verdes High School. The young quarterback aims to compete for the starting position after a limited freshman season. His arrival is seen as a significant boost to the Oxford Chargers, who are preparing for an upcoming challenging season. As he trains this summer, Kiffin has drawn attention from college scouts with several scholarship offers already in hand.

Oxford, Mississippi – Knox Kiffin, the son of Ole Miss head football coach Lane Kiffin, is set to join the Oxford High School football program after transferring from Palos Verdes High School in California. The young quarterback will officially start with the team next month as he embarks on his sophomore year.

This move, which was reported earlier this year, marks a significant transition for Knox, moving from California’s Palos Verdes High School, where he saw limited varsity action during his freshman season. Despite his limited playtime, Palos Verdes achieved notable success in 2024, winning a California state championship.

The Oxford Chargers, who finished the 2024 season with a record of 6-5 and were ranked No. 34 in Mississippi by On3 Composite Rankings, are hopeful that Kiffin can contribute significantly to their team. Last season, the Chargers started out struggling with a 1-4 record but achieved a stronger finish with five consecutive wins. Knox Kiffin’s arrival adds a promising element to the team’s roster as they prepare for a new season.

As he settles into his new environment, Kiffin aims to compete for the starting quarterback position. His athletic prowess has already garnered attention, as he received his first Power Five offer from SMU earlier in May. Since then, he has attracted additional scholarship offers from several colleges, including Arkansas State, Western Kentucky, Georgia State, Sacramento State, Murray State, and Florida International University (FIU).

Knox Kiffin is expected to play a pivotal role in Mississippi high school football, and he has a busy summer ahead of him. With summer training camps starting next month, he will likely have intense preparation before the regular season kicks off.

The Oxford High School football team will face a challenging schedule in the upcoming season that includes noteworthy opponents. Key games include matchups against top-ranked teams such as Collierville (Tennessee) on August 29, South Panola on September 5, and Lafayette on September 12. Additionally, they will play against teams like Tupelo, Grenada, Madison Central, Germantown, Clinton, Murrah, and Starkville throughout the season, leading to a demanding and rigorous competition.

Lane Kiffin has expressed his pride in having his son nearby and playing for Oxford High School’s Chargers, noting the significance of family proximity. The dynamic of a father coaching at a nearby college while his son plays at the high school level adds an interesting narrative to their family story.

As Knox Kiffin gears up for this new chapter in his football career, his contributions will be closely watched, both by fans in Oxford and by college scouts interested in his development as a promising young talent in the sport.
