Oxford, Mississippi—James William Guest II, a beloved figure known for his jovial spirit and generous heart, passed away peacefully at his home on October 9, 2025, at the age of 76. Surrounded by loved ones, Jim’s passing followed a brief illness. His life, marked by laughter and love, was celebrated by family and friends just weeks earlier when he honored his birthday.

Family and friends remember Jim as the “life of the party,” whose warm-hearted and compassionate nature left a lasting impact on those around him. Often characterized by his humility and generosity, Jim lived his life exuberantly, always making others feel special and prioritized. He had a knack for storytelling—particularly about his passions, such as hunting and football—which could light up any room.

Jim was a proud alumnus of Cruger-Tchula Academy, where he made history as the first quarterback, sporting the number 10 jersey. An avid outdoorsman, he cherished his time in the Delta region, enjoying both deer and duck hunting. These activities often prompted calls to his sister, Brenda, informing her of his outdoor adventures, which would lead to delicious meals awaiting him at home.

In 1968, Jim met the love of his life, Mary Catherine Mosley, and together they cultivated a rich life filled with shared values and deeper connections. They lived in the Madison, MS area before ultimately settling in Oxford, Mississippi. Professionally, they worked side by side in real estate, where Jim relished showing land, especially on the family farm in the Delta.

Jim’s dedication to his family and faith was palpable; he and Mary Catherine served the less fortunate in their community as devout Christians. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Catherine Mosley Guest, their daughter Olivia King (J.W.) of Madison, Mississippi, and son Will Guest (Hayden) of Oxford, Mississippi. Jim was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren: Jake King (Leadville, Colorado), Blaise King (Breckenridge, Colorado), and Brooklyn Tingle (Oxford, Mississippi).

Jim’s legacy also includes his surviving siblings: brother Tom Guest (Margaret) of Oxford, Mississippi; sister Brenda Bridgers (Lee) of Greenwood, Mississippi; and sister Beth Embry (Roy) of Madison, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christine Daniel Guest and Thomas Edward Guest.

In honor of Jim and his vibrant life, a family graveside service is planned, followed by a Celebration of Life on October 23, 2025, at The Farmstead Pavilion at Woodson Ridge in Oxford, MS. Family and friends are invited to bring handwritten stories, jokes, or quotes that reflect Jim’s spirited personality for the occasion, ensuring his memory lives on through shared laughter and love.
