Harmontown, Mississippi – Colonel Floyd Bryant, a distinguished former US Air Force officer and devoted community servant, passed away on August 24, 2025, at the age of 81 at his residence in Harmontown, Mississippi.
A visitation for Colonel Bryant is scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 1 pm to 3 pm at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford, located at 601 Commerce Parkway, Oxford, MS 38655. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be conducted at 3 pm, with Bro. Randy Hope officiating. Interment is set to take place at Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida, on September 5, 2025, at 9:30 am.
Colonel Bryant was born on February 10, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Floyd Bryant, Sr. and Harvey Mae Seymour Bryant. He graduated from Whitehaven High School before pursuing higher education at the University of Memphis and Nova University.
During his life, Floyd demonstrated remarkable leadership and a commitment to service, starting with his recognition as an Eagle Scout. He served an impressive twenty-eight years as an officer in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1994. His military career was marked by dedication and honor.
After leaving the Air Force, Colonel Bryant took on the role of Chief of Police in Universal City, Texas. Later, he and his family relocated to Harmontown, Mississippi, where he became a passionate tree farmer. Floyd continued to serve his community through volunteering with organizations such as RSVP and Stronger Together Oxford, and he was an active member of the Lafayette County Volunteer Fire Department.
Colonel Bryant is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Faylene Bryant, residing in Harmontown, MS. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children, daughter Meredith Norteman (Scott) of Saint Johns, FL, and son Dale Bryant (Ashley) of Denham Springs, LA. Additionally, he is survived by two sisters, Laura Hope of Water Valley and Ernestine Kelly (Mike) of Saulsbury, TN, as well as sisters-in-law Anne Landers of Stephens City, VA, and Linda Kelley (Bill) of Dickson, TN. His family also remembers his granddaughter, Braxton Bryant of Denham Springs, LA, and three grandsons: Reid Norteman of Daytona Beach, FL, Liam Norteman of Saint Johns, FL, and Brody Bryant of Denham Springs, LA.
Colonel Floyd Bryant was preceded in death by his parents and several relatives, including his father and mother-in-law, Albert and Maggie Hill Floyd, and sister-in-law, Betty Mae Floyd. In honor of Colonel Bryant, the family requests that donations and memorials be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
