Atlanta, GA – Jack Todd, a renowned patent attorney whose career spanned over 31 years, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy marked by both professional achievement and personal humility. Born on October 27, 1967, in Oxford, Mississippi, Todd grew to become a leading figure in patent law, co-founding Todd Partners, P.C. with his brother and managing the firm until his death.
Todd’s educational journey began in his formative years, attending Tower Hill School, Montgomery Bell Academy, and Pace Academy in Atlanta, where he graduated as class valedictorian in 1986. He exemplified the values of his school, earning the Frank D. Kaley award. He pursued a degree in electrical engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, graduating in 1990 with highest honors. His academic tenure was distinguished by internships at NASA’s Langley Research Center and the Georgia Tech Research Institute. Active in campus life, he was not only a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity but also participated in three honor societies: Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi, and Eta Kappa Nu.
Todd’s transition to law began at Duke University’s School of Law, where he earned his degree in 1994. Over the years, he held positions at prominent law firms in Greenville, South Carolina, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia, earning recognition for his expertise in patent law.
In 2011, Todd established Todd Partners, P.C. in collaboration with his younger brother. Known for his humility and consideration, he was respected by colleagues and clients alike. An example of his character was displayed when he informed a friend via text of his inability to meet for lunch due to a heart attack, apologizing for the short notice.
Outside his professional life, Todd had a variety of interests, including books, sports, politics, astronomy, and horticulture. His faith in Jesus Christ profoundly influenced his values and interactions with others. He and his wife, Tracy Michelle Minchew, met while studying at Georgia Tech. Tracy, an architecture student and part of the women’s tennis team, was married to Todd for 27 years until her unfortunate passing from cancer in 2017.
Together, Jack and Tracy had three children: Ryan Wesley, Harrison Brooks, and Leah Kathryn Todd. Ryan resides in Durham, North Carolina, with his wife, Danielle Estes, and their two daughters, Riley Michelle and Clara Louise. Todd’s family also includes his brother, Marcus Todd, living in Atlanta, Georgia, along with Marcus’s two sons, Henry Thomas Todd and Lewis Richardson Todd.
Todd is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Eugene Todd and Jane Hendrix Todd, and his beloved wife. A memorial service to celebrate his life is scheduled for 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Dunwoody Community Church in Atlanta, Georgia. The family has expressed that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to KW Cares in memory of Jack and Tracy Todd. KW Cares provided invaluable support to their family during Tracy’s cancer journey, a cause that Todd actively supported.
