AUSTIN, Texas — Ole Miss spent the first half chasing and the second half nearly catching up, and the seventh-ranked Rebels dropped a 34-27 decision to No. 19 Texas in Austin on Saturday, with a crowd of 104,306 packed into the home of the Longhorns.
The Rebels had just 138 yards and a lone field goal before halftime, and the Longhorns built a 24-3 lead behind a short Arch Manning touchdown run, a 50-yard scoring catch by Ryan Wingo and a 2-yard plunge by Michael Terry III. That was the lowest first-half point total for Ole Miss since a 2023 game against Mississippi State.
The comeback started with defense. Kam Franklin fell on a loose ball in the end zone for a touchdown, and quarterback Trinidad Chambliss then found Horatio Fields twice, first from 6 yards out and later on a 27-yard strike that tied the game at 24.
Texas answered with 8:04 left when Manning faked a handoff and kept it for a 1-yard score. Ole Miss drove back into range, but defensive lineman Alex January blocked the Rebels field goal try, and Gianni Spetic later added a 33-yarder for Texas. Lucas Carneiro hit from 39 yards in the closing minutes to cut the gap to a touchdown, and that was as close as it got.
Chambliss threw for 250 yards, Deuce Alexander caught passes for 87 yards and Makhi Frazier led the Ole Miss ground game with 47 yards. On the other side, Raleek Brown ran for 157 yards and Jelani McDonald posted 12 tackles and an interception for Texas.
The loss leaves Ole Miss at 5-2 overall and 3-2 in Southeastern Conference play, with the Rebels now needing to regroup before the November stretch of the league schedule.
