OXFORD, Miss. — No. 12 Ole Miss gets an early Halloween start on Saturday, hosting Auburn at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford with kickoff set for 11:45 a.m. Central time.

The Rebels are 5-2 and come home after a seven-point loss at Texas, a game that turned on two very different halves. With Georgia due in Oxford next weekend, a second straight loss would leave very little room for a College Football Playoff run, and Ole Miss likely needs to win out from here.

Auburn also arrives off a loss, a 38-17 setback against LSU last week. The Tigers have dropped games to Florida, Tennessee and LSU, but they also own a win over Georgia two weeks ago, which makes them a dangerous visitor.

The matchup to watch is the Auburn quarterback. Byrum Brown leads the Tigers in rushing and has handled about 47% of their carries, and first-year Ole Miss coach Pete Golding said this week that his defense must account for a quarterback who leads the SEC in designed runs. On the other side, the Rebels want to get quarterback Trinidad Chambliss running again after a stretch in which he has kept the ball in the pocket more often. Kewan Lacy has already been ruled out.

This is the 49th meeting between the schools and the first since 2023. Auburn leads the series 35-13, though Ole Miss has won the last two.

Fans heading out early should have comfortable tailgate weather. The forecast calls for about 61 degrees at 6 a.m. and 71 degrees under clouds at kickoff, rising to 75 by the fourth quarter. Rain chances stay under 10% at the start but climb to about 50% by the time the crowd leaves the stadium.
