OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss kept its biggest 2027 recruiting prize on Tuesday, good news for the football program in Oxford, Miss. Mitchell Turner, a four-star defensive lineman from Louisville, Miss., said on social media he has ended his recruitment and is fully committed to the Rebels.

Turner had pledged to Ole Miss in June, but questions grew after he made a visit to Alabama over the weekend. His post put that to rest. He thanked his family and the coaches who recruited him and said he is excited about his future in Oxford.

Rated the No. 1 prospect in Mississippi, Turner stands 6-foot-3 and weighs about 275 to 280 pounds. He picked Ole Miss over offers from Alabama, LSU, Texas and Mississippi State, among other schools.

His numbers at Louisville High School explain why 23 Division I programs offered him a scholarship. Turner has piled up 207 total tackles, including 64.5 for loss, along with 23.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Keeping the state’s best player at home is a win for Pete Golding and his staff, who rotate a deep group of linemen. Turner’s size already fits inside on an SEC front, and his quickness off the snap lets him make plays in the backfield.

The Rebels’ 2027 class ranks 12th in the country. It has 23 committed players so far, 12 of them four-star prospects and the other 11 rated three stars, and five rank among the top 10 players in their home states. Before he gets to campus, Turner is slated to suit up for Mississippi in its December 12 all-star matchup against Alabama, held in Mobile.
