OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss will face Auburn on Saturday in Oxford without its top running back. Head coach Pete Golding said at his Monday news conference that Kewan Lacy dislocated his shoulder in the third quarter of the loss to Texas and has no chance of playing this week.

The injury hit the same left shoulder that has bothered Lacy for much of the fall, though Golding described this one as a different problem from the earlier damage. The staff will evaluate him further before deciding what the rest of his season looks like.

It has been a stop-and-start year for the preseason All-America pick. He was hurt in the opening win over Louisville, injured the shoulder in the win over LSU, missed the Florida game and then had a seven-carry outing at Vanderbilt. His best day came against Missouri, when he ran for a season-high 122 yards. In 2025 he piled up 1,567 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns.

Golding was unusually early with the news. Most SEC programs hold injury details until the league report comes out on Wednesday night of game week.

Makhi Frazier, a junior who transferred from Michigan State, is the likely starter. He has 301 yards on 51 carries, including 101 against Missouri and a 34-yard burst against Texas. Golding also said sophomore Shekai Mills-Knight will get a real opportunity, with sophomore JT Lindsey and senior Joshua Dye also in the mix.

There was better news up front. Golding expects left tackle Terez Davis, who dressed but did not play against Texas, to return against Auburn. Defensive back Edwin Joseph, recovering from ankle surgery, is less likely to be available.
